How should I treat my bag to keep it beautiful?

1.

Your RODTNES item does not require a lot of care and maintenance, however, we recommend that you follow a few simple care instructions in order to keep it beautiful and functioning for a long time.

  • Read the product description on the product page. It may contain specific instruction regarding your bag.

  • Fill your bag with tissue, cloth or paper, when it is not in use and hang it by its’ handles or lying flat, when you put it down. Leather is shaped by how it is used and stored, and if you leave your bag in a folded or wrinkled position for longer periods of time, or place it in the same folded or collapsed position every day, the folds may become permanent.

  • Your bag will not be affected by a few drops of rain, but for extra protection you may spray it with water repellant spray. You should never let your bag become wet.

  • If your bag becomes worn along edges or corners you can treat the worn parts with a leather cream in a neutral or matching color, just like you do with worn leather shoes. (NB. Pay attention to possible smudging on clothes etc. from excess or unabsorbed colour.)

Where can I get my bag repaired?

2.

If you need your bag repaired, we recommend that you contact a good shoemaker, who can also repair leather bags. If you do not have a good shoemaker in your town, we recommend Sten’s Skomageri in Aarhus, who receive and send repair jobs within Denmark. Contact Sten Røhl on skomageri@skomageri.dk or telephone +45 8625 0999.

Can I buy your bags in a store somewhere?

3.

It is not possible to buy a RODTNES bag in any store, and the reason why, requires a little bit of explanation: We make products in very high quality, and sell them at very reasonable prices. Actually, we sell them at a 50% lower price than we would have to, if we sold them through retailers, provided free return shipping or had a showroom.

The only way we can make products in this quality at these prices is because we cut away everything that would add extra costs to our products. This means that you cannot find RODTNES bags in any store, and that you need to accept an online-only interaction with our brand. (for any inquiries contact us here: info@rodtnesbags.com) However, this is also the reason that we’re able to offer you supreme quality bags at very reasonable price. And we promise that we do our best to make this online-only interaction as smooth and pleasant as possible 🤍

Can I pick up my purchase personally?

4.

Our bags are stored in a warehouse, where they pack and ship all orders. It is not possible for them to welcome and serve visitors, and the only way to purchase, receive and return a RODTNES bag is by ordering it online and receiving or returning the order by courier or mail. (Read more about why, in question 3.) Read more about shipping here.

Can I return my purchase personally?

Why is the leather structure not completely uniform?

6.

The leather we use is not embossed leather. Instead of embossing a ‘leather pattern’ onto a stretched, flat hide, we give the leather a treatment (a type of ‘washing’), which causes the leather to shrink and the natural leather structure to stand out more clearly. It gives a nice, thick and structured leather quality.

Different parts of a hide have different structures. Some parts have a slightly larger structure than others, and therefore the structure will appear slightly differently across the hide, when the leather is ‘shrunken’. This method is an expensive way to produce bags, as each piece of leather becomes slightly smaller from the treatment.

The most common way to produce structured leather is to emboss a ‘leather patter’ onto a flat hide. With this method, each hide is stretched to make the hide larger, which causes the natural structure to disappear completely. Afterwards the hide is embossed with a tool to provide a new ‘leather pattern’ to the surface. This method provides a completely uniform pattern to the leather.

When a hide is embossed, flaws and scars on the leather will be concealed. When ‘shrinking’ leather, as we do, any flaws in the leather will become even more visible. This means, that the natural variation in structure on a RODTNES bag is your proof, that your bag is created from high quality leather.
