Our bags are stored in a warehouse, where they pack and ship all orders. It is not possible for them to welcome and serve visitors, and the only way to purchase, receive and return a RODTNES bag is by ordering it online and receiving or returning the order by courier or mail. The leather we use is not embossed leather. Instead of embossing a ‘leather pattern’ onto a stretched, flat hide, we give the leather a treatment (a type of ‘washing’), which causes the leather to shrink and the natural leather structure to stand out more clearly. It gives a nice, thick and structured leather quality. Different parts of a hide have different structures.

Some parts have a slightly larger structure than others, and therefore the structure will appear slightly differently across the hide, when the leather is ‘shrunken’. This method is an expensive way to produce bags, as each piece of leather becomes slightly smaller from the treatment. The most common way to produce structured leather is to emboss a ‘leather patter’ onto a flat hide. With this method, each hide is stretched to make the hide larger, which causes the natural structure to disappear completely. Afterwards the hide is embossed with a tool to provide a new ‘leather pattern’ to the surface.

This method provides a completely uniform pattern to the leather. When a hide is embossed, flaws and scars on the leather will be concealed. When ‘shrinking’ leather, as we do, any flaws in the leather will become even more visible. This means, that the natural variation in structure on a RODTNES bag is your proof, that your bag is created from high quality leather.
